Turnover figures are the latest annual data officially published by the retailers themselves. When no figures are available and minimal 2 sources give reliable data we use these to make estimates. These are indicated with (e). Except retailers quoted on stock exchanges most of them prefer to delay publishing as long as possible. In Europe this can be 1.5 year.
Title: New Internet database on Food retailers worldwide Utrecht, the Netherlands, December 11, 2007 Veraart Research, well known for its reports on retail in Europe, has now started to bring its publications in a most practical online database named www.retail-index.com. Veraart has made reports on Food retailers in Europe since 1989 and has now created this unique database that has more information than any report before and also managed to have now over 700 food retailers in the database. The data are collected over a long period of time by the research team in the Netherlands in combination with local retail researchers in many countries. The database shows extensive rankings of all major retailers, based on turnover and number of stores. For each retailer a detailed profile is provided with full coordinates, website, email, manager(s), and turnover total and per banner, shop types, number of stores and other relevant data. While most reports on retailers are only focusing on Wal-Mart, Carrefour, Tesco, Metro and other mega retailers for an international perspective, this website is totally aimed at a country by country ranking and retailer profiles in the individual counties. The new retail-index database covers other sectors as well, such as fashion, footwear, sport & leisure stores, and consumer electronics and DIY retailers. For suppliers to the retail chains in many countries, the information about the top retailers is indispensable and no other source presents this information in such a practical way. In each country and sector, the top retailers are ranked in size and individual profiles are accessible for the subscribers to this information system. Full access for one year can be obtained for 975 euro per sector, providing access to the information about retailers in 30 European countries and 15 countries outside Europe. For those who need information on just one country that can be arranged as well. Comparing the old reports with this new online system clearly demonstrates the advantages of a system constantly updated throughout the year while containing far more retailers than before. While full access is only for subscribers, any interested person can see the complete examples of Portugal and all its major retailers.
