Top ranking retailers in Belgium

Once dominated by GB, which was acquired by Carrefour many years ago, it is now Colruyt who leads the retail market. The Belgian gourmet lifestyle had to give way to the fierce price competition and efficient stores, leaving  Delhaize and only partly Carrefour still offering top quality and service. Colruyt's store concept is quite unique and can only be seen in Belgium. Certainly it was the weakness of the hypermarkets that made it possible for them to grow. Nonetheless Belgium has a high number of smaller stores in all retail sectors. Most chains today are of Flemish origin.
